Logistics

Things we need to discuss, logistics-wise:
  • Invitations - We're going to have to track down addresses for all 75 million people in our graduating class, then keep track of who has RSVP'ed so we can have an accurate headcount.
  • The venue - How big a place do we need to reserve? Will we need a deposit? How far in advance will we need to take action?
  • Food and beverage - open bar, am I right?
  • Entertainment - We'll probably want to hire a DJ? Have someone put together some sort of slide show? I don't know.
  • Funding - We'll need to make a budget, and appoint someone to oversee it. Also we'll need to decide how much to charge, I'm thinking somewhere in the $30-$50 per person neighborhood.

Hey there this is Alejandra(Ali) I work for Alacarte Entertianment wich owns many diffenrnt bars and rest. in the area and also in the city...I would say we keep it in Schaumburg though....class of 97 did it at Alumni Club upstrairs and said it was actually pretty fun. No actual invitations were sent out everythings was done over the internet...something like paymail or e vite...not sure. but, with alacarte, they host so many parties of this type so they are very familiar and very reasonable with bar packages. anywhere between 30 to 45 dollars open bar and im sure some sort of apps. Anyway let me know if I can help.....I kinda have the Hook up with them. alexandra14u@msn.com

Hi There,

This is Rupa Patadia. I agree with the rest of the posts and think we should keep it in Schaumburg. Has anyone been to the new Schaumburg Convention Center? The bar they have is absolutely amazing. The entire look and feel of the place is modern and it would serve as a great host to our venue. I work across the street from it and the place is absolutely huge. My company recently had an event there so I can track down costs for rentals, etc. Who is actually in charge of planning the event? I thought there was a committee we elected the year we graduated to put something together...I could be wrong though.

Excellent question, Rupa. Does anyone know that was? I was not part of any committee.

For some reason, I remember sitting in the gym and one of our teachers saying that these people are in charge of planning the reunion 10 years from now. I want to say Amber (I forget her last name), but I'm not sure.

Maybe the people in charge of planning this event haven't thought about it yet. I just don't want to step on any toes in case something has already been planned.

Perhaps this blog will get out to those people and they will reply.

Hello, this is Maureen McHugh Radek and as Alejandra said, Class of '97 had theirs at Alumni club in September last year. It was reasonbly priced ($40) & they had the upstairs bar. It's a location people know, there are hotels down the street, and it's a more casual setting, so people can chat & catch up. My husband Paul said it was fun & a lot of people showed up. Thanks Sam for getting the ball rolling.

Hey, it's Kara Morgan (Boden)- the group that was supposed to plan it was the Senior Class but I don't think it needs to get complicated. Barleycorn will be open in Schaumburg by then... we can do a drink special where people can pay if they want, or not. We can spread the word through email, myspace or whatever. Schaumburg had been using a company to make the Event a big deal, djs, etc and the turnout has been horrible. People just dont want to pay the price. At Barleycorn or wherever, a $20 wristband could get us drinks and music and people could pop in casually as they please. No fuss.

If we're going to keep it in Schaumburg, I also like the idea of the Schaumburg/Renaissance Hotel & Convention Center. It's in a great location (I think everyone is typically familiar with the area), hotel rooms are easily accessible for those coming in from out-of-town, and it's big enough to suit our needs. BTW - if people are worried about the cost, hotels will usually waive the banquet room charge for a "food & beverage" function.
If people are more into the bar idea and staying local, then I would go with Kara's Barleycorn idea. It's a new venue to the area and also in a great location. And more importantly, it's not the Alumni Club idea that's been done before (and beat to death frankly).
As far as invites go - I think Evites or some type of web-based invitation would be best. I guess the question is how to track down everyone's email addresses?

Hello everyone. I think that everyone has great ideas. I've have had the pleasure/displeasure to have worked, planned, and hosted serveral reunions. I have worked for Hyatt hotels, I opened Millennium Park downtown, and now work for a large restaurant company and I have seen a lot of these events. I think everyone is on the right track and the ideas are great. The names and addresses are key. We don't won't to leave anyone left out. If I can be any assistance with some personal contacts with local hotels, bars, restaurants, and other locations, let me know.
